Stravinsky-Pulcinella Suite first page (Chester, 1920)

It’s been an unusual past few weeks, and I haven’t written a Snooch’s Silly Symphony post in about a month. Hopefully, I will get back on track with the current one, and backfill what I missed. Pulcinella is a piece I first learned of in college in either a Music Theory IV listening list, or briefly in Music History II. I remember my MH teacher (rest in peace) would speak about Stravinsky in terms of periods of output, like Beethoven, or Picasso. Pulcinella, I seem to recall, came as a result of a neoclassical period. You’d never guess it was Stravinsky, on first listening, but you do catch some interesting flavor, which is far from the actual classical masters.

I was only able to get a hold of a free copy of the piano score, unfortunately, but it’s already gotten me thinking about using some of the movements as interludes at church in the future.
