Week Thirty-Seven: September 11

Three fun new pieces to enjoy this week. I’ll complete the Cav/Pag that I left dangling a few months back. Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana is one opera that has elude me all these years completely. I’m not even sure I’ll recognize the noted Intermezzo that everyone is supposedly so familiar with. But at 80 minutes in length, I suspect this will be just what I need to bring back my confidence. I sure did enjoy Manon the past three weeks, but it didn’t leave me with much time for my other pieces. Hopefully, this shorter opera will do just that.

Week Thirty-One: July 31

Three new pieces to start out August. I’ve noticed the past few weeks have been quite out of the ordinary in my life, putting into situations where I haven’t been able to listen to my music as often as usual, and leaving me less interested in the project. The other day, in fact, I began to wonder if it was something that I should just give up on.

Week Twenty-Five: June 19

Once again, it’s a week when all three categories come up for renewal, so that means it’s time to open up a new post.

Week Nineteen: May 8

Time for a clean slate of music this week. I’ve been on vacation this past week, and now it’s time to get back to business.

Week Thirteen: March 27

How many cases of tuberculosis can you fit into the opening weeks of a year of opera study? Let’s just say, “a few”, at least.

A set of three new pieces to study this week. One for each category.

This week features the holdover choral piece, in its second week, Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine 1610, joined by Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole and Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann.

It’s the first week of 2015, my first outing with three pieces vying for my attention. The first selection is always a major decision, and ends up representing the year, in a way. It is first on a playlist, which although ever-growing, tends to result in a lot of airtime for the earlier pieces, throughout the year.
