I prepared a session on “Empowering the Volunteer Choir with Technology” for the American Choral Directors Association Eastern Division‘s biannual conference in February 2016. In it, I was able to highlight many of the initiatives I’ve explored with my church choir at Edwards Church United Church of Christ in Framingham, Massachusetts. (I also participated in a roundtable.)
I am in my eighth year as choir director at Edwards, and have used a variety of technological and media-related techniques over the years, in order both to enhance the rehearse experience, and to strengthen the choir’s abilities to help themselves to become more confident with our music during the rest of the week. I built and manage a website dedicated to the church’s music program. I often employ an LCD screen to show slides and scores at key points in a rehearsal. My presentation took the form of a poster session, and the take-away can be found on this site.

I am midway through the process of becoming a Commissioned Minister of Music for the United Church of Christ. This project reflects my goal to reach a wider community through music.
I encourage you to reach out to me, so that we can continue discussions from the conference. I can be reached here at this site, or by Twitter (@rickseaholm).
