As I navigate my life with Parkinson’s Disease, and knowing it will be with me for the rest of my life, I quickly came to realize that it would be necessary for me to accept and “welcome” it into my life, as strange as that sounds. There is much more about that in these pages and my various media clips.
But, it goes far beyond acceptance or resignation. I’ve recently begun to think about the ways that Parkinson’s has become like an overbearing director or a scene-stealing collaborator. When I forget this simple fact, I can end up at odds with Pedey, like a parent and child arguing over bedtime or to eat and exercise properly. Pedey is always right and in the end, always wins.
There are many examples about how this plays out in my life, and in each episode of this podcast I share a reflection on what it’s like to live with PD and offer an original piece of music that complements, or was inspired by, the topic for the day. This is not a “woe is me” show, and through illustrating both the challenges and triumphs that it brings, it is my goal that listeners may think of ways to apply similar logic to the adversity in their own lives.
